BOOK CLUB DISCUSSION

This Thursday October 16th 2014 in our book club discussion I Obara Meji have provided the material which you will find the link below, with an Introduction to the subject as well. I will be the one to moderate on the topic. We thank Kiabublez for her contribution to book club night she did a job well done on a very controversial topic. Good job Kia. It is unfortunate that I did not see my regulars to show support, but it is what it is, nuff love same way. Book Club begins @ 8pm, please make an effort to be here, knowledge is power, let us learn together.

I stumbled onto this video today, the brother Sa neter, is someone I know because I use to buy a lot of videos from him down in harlem. He is a very conscious brother, and I loved our many conversations. When you speak with people like his you learn, on that I can assure you. Now this topic is not about white and black to me Obara Meji. It is about logic and what is right. I was born into this religion christianity, which in my opinion, is the worse thing ever to happen to Black people, again My opinion!

I was one of them christians who loved Christ, I still do!..Are you shocked?, I said I still does, do, I likes de bredda!

Let me explain why; I have no idea if this brother existed or not although history says Yes he did. We do not have to believe what history says, because it is just that…His..Story…tainted and revised while being told or written through generations, so I being of sound mind and body cannot trust that entirely. However, the reason I like Jesus Christ, (I do not worship him, or pray in his name, or have him as my lord and saviour, no, not any more) is if what he portrays, benevolence!

Cinderella did not exist, but yet I felt empathy for her and the treatment she received at the hands of her cruel stepsisters and de ugly step madda. Jesus’s character as told in the bible was of a being that was kind natured and loving with a hint of temper (member when him beat de gamblers out of the temple). Now let me be clear, I question the very existence of Jesus, having now become “awake” and realizing that religion is really controll. Just something to believe in and many people just want to BELIEVE. Its just that simple. My attraction to the character is his benevolence, made up or not.

What is sad to me however as an African is that all other races worship and reveres deities that look like them, deities which they identify with culturally and traditionally, except the African. While there are some, how many are rushing to Africa to worship our Gods?

The Cubans worship Lucumi, which came in through the trans atlantic slave trade with them to cuba, when the Yorubas arrived as captured slave on the Island. Among them were Iyanifa’s, olorisha’s and Babalawo’s and other initiates of Ifa/Orisha. They preserved the worship as a collective, and hid the Orishas under the guise of catholic saints, yet slavery has been abolished for years, but the Cubans now call the Yoruba practice Lucimi, and have lightened the skin of the Orishas, changed the names to suit their language, Yemoja is called Yemaya and our Orunmila has become Orula. They even trash talk Africa and Africa from whence their religion came from and discourage people from going to Africa, where Orunmila built his house in Ile Ife Nigeria. So even though for years they had been great custodian of the tradition, they have bastardized it to fit them, while trying to put the African down or as worthless regarding his own legacy. O ma se ooo..My elders in Nigeria including my very powerful husband, told me “leave them, don’t mind them” God sees all things.

Please watch the video (s), I may add more and come mek we reason. Please be here on this very important topic and add you piece. and while you are at it, please pick or choose which one of these men have the most impact on your life;

Marcus Garvey….Jesus Christ…..Malcom X

1-Do you believe in religion? If yes, why and what purpose does it serve and what has religion done for you?

2-Should race (skin color) matter whether in tradition or religion, in who we worship or venerate as deity?

3- Seeing that there is no image of God in any religion or tradition, how do you vision the God you serve?

4- Why is it that some black people easily subscribe to the idea of worshipping or believing in another race as their God, while rejecting their own?

5- Why do you believe that the black man hate himself and his brother

6- Why do the black man look to other races as superior to him, this shows in him kneeling before a white image of his deity? Does that image of a white Jesus play into his Psyche as a subliminal message, and if so do you believe that christianity is and has been used to keep black people enslaved? (If this question sound repetitive, please inform me)

7 – Was all this planned?

Watch this video, I may add more

The Psychological Effects Of White Jesus Continue To Haunt Us

Yw, i notice the use of weapons and weaponized in your answer. And I do agree because we have seen Jesus image used as a weapon of indoctrination and intimidation of people throughout the world, and over centuries.

It has been weaponized to assist in world domination of free thinking/will in the form of the Christian religion with the being termed as the lord and savior of mankind.

Cas, think about how old the bible is (centuries) and that it was not written by 1 or 2 or 3 people. Then, think about it being edited numerous times. Then, think about the scriptures that were completely removed…What we have is not what the bible should be. Like me some Psalms, though..

Since “they” had lots of work to do they decided slavery on plantations was best and having us dig up our mineral and precious gems and metals for their benefits. On top of that they say their god say to feed us little to nothing and never the good stuff…lol

I did belive in religion. I feel because i was raised in church. The whole family goes to church together. I felt diferent about certain lessons tje parson teach n why he never answer questions about jesus. The story of jesus is sweet n loving but i wanted to know what happen between his teens n age 33. The worst thing that I was taught was to give in expectation of getting blessed. If you going to give do so because you want to not to receive – it corrupts the act.

Cami

Reply to  Yw

absolutely. The act must be without the hope for a reward. I think the purest act is for instance…a man standing behind a park car and its rolling back. You see it and run to push them out the way…no hope for a reward because you had no time to consider giving in expectation…

I remember I was taught that all angelic beings are male and blonde with blue eyes; that is the epitome of purity and perfection. So when you think along these line what does that mean for people who don’t look like that? As a people we buy it hook, line and sinker

4- Why is it that some black people easily subscribe to the idea of worshipping or believing in another race as their God, while rejecting their own? The reason is because they don’t want to pick up a book and read. I feel that if they do they would have questions of this so called Jesus. Why is that Jesus always has sun behind his head in all of his pictures. I mean I think that black should out who is Horus and Ahmen. No, don’t I believe in Jesus but that is just me.

Ok I give some input to question number 6. It has been embedded in us as black people that Jesus is white, because if you go to black churches you see pictures of Jesus and he is white, so yes subconsciously that Jesus is white. Yes, I do believe that Christianity is keeping black people enslaved, because as soon as you tend to stray from the beliefs of the bible you are consider a devil worshipper and you are evil.

White as in European (although it wasn’t in existence as such a place then) or “white” in complexion? I think the white comes into play because of those Vatican commissioned paintings.

I can tell you I don’t like any body interfering with me and my earrings (ears pierce before me was one and chain and bangle down from birth, lol) relax hair and whatever clothes me want to wear. I strongly believe that black women (the ugly hat crowd) who wear long skirts, zero jewelry but wedding band and looking outdated at all times and say its because of church, they are serving god and keeping it pure. They are stuck in slave mode. The slave mode I’m referring to his when Massa wife prohibited… Read more »

I love the story of Jesus. I don’t know nor care if he was real. I just like the story of a person making the choice to try and be the best they can be. Of course, I have a problem with the immaculate conception, all man disciple crew, and a few other things in the story but a good read none the less.

1-Do you believe in religion? NO. To me, religion is industrialized spirituality; processed from the minds of those before me; weaponized to use faith and hope against believers of whichever particular belief. 2-Should race (skin color) matter whether in tradition or religion, in who we worship or venerate as deity? In my opinion, people should be free to worship whatever they want if it does no harm to another. If someone want to worship cow crap, feel free, as long as you are not throwing it on me. 3- Seeing that there is no image of God in any religion… Read more »

When I looked at Cesar, he did not look like me…not even a tan after dragging the cross for miles…

I am proud though that even though they raped, beat, and maimed us…we did not become them…we did not become them, we did become them…

We still have love…

I often wonder how come…we were robbed of everything…but our ancestors tapped into the greatest magic and force there is Love…we chose love …

To answer the question in the video, I choose the man in the middle, the pic of Jesus…it was that same picture and the one of Mary that made me question my ideas on God, the bible, religion, and spirituality …it was what lead me on this path…

I am no longer Christian but was, and if that picture did not haunt me, I prolly still would be Christian…the man in the picture does not look like me and late at night his eyes would creep me out…
