THE JEWEL THAT IS CURIOSITY

(Image: Altria Senior Living)

That old saying “curiosity kills the cat” may be true, but have you ever thought that curiosity could be a lead way to finding your destiny? That finding your purpose could be done by what interests you most, what fascinates you, even to what could be the detriment (hence the saying) of you or perhaps the betterment? Yes, curiosity can lead you to your own demise, but perhaps it was written by you that way.

After all we all have a key to go home (leave this earth), something that will signal to the invisible world that it is time and we are ready. I will do a post on this later. Curiosity is something that could lead you to who you ought supposed to be, as in finding your purpose. If you study babies as they grow they are naturally curious, and it is this curiosity that teaches them. Curiosity is a very distinct part of the human mind and make up, something so natural we often pay it and its importance in our daily lives no mind. Recently one of my students asked me how will they know their purpose or find their destiny, why was she here? A simple automatic response came from me to her, “follow your curiosity,” I told her. What are you curious about?

I know many of you have never thought of this and perhaps have even castigated yourself on certain compulsive habits, as in thoughts or even longings. Asking yourself, how does this work or what about that? Even in science we will realize that curiosity enhances our learning. Yet my posts are always about the spirituality of all things and how they affect them or how we perceive them. The curiosity I write of here, is that something that drives and haunts you. That thing that either makes you become afraid but wanting to know more about it, or what makes you chase it, eager for answers. It is that magnet that pulls at you as if you are Steele.

Everything in life has a spiritual meaning behind it, this includes all that we do. I am sure that you already know that we are spiritual beings have a human experience.

There is nothing in this life or within our existence here that operates singularly. One thing often segue into another, this is called the “flow of life”. It is emotions that allows the effects of positive and negative functions in our life, leading us to joy or sorrow, but all must be experienced. This is how we grow. This is how we learn.

We must know this if we ought to discover ourselves. Self pity serves no purpose to our spiritual or physical well being.

In one of my recent post I wrote that I longed for nothing. This is quite true because I, at where I am in my life, have found me. I will admit there is more to learn, but where I am now is where I ought to be at this point in my life. An exhale perhaps, from my long and arduous journey since birth, but now waiting to trod on ahead to more adventure.

My curiosity about things that have interested me ever since I was young, led me to who I am now. The occult and everything about the supernatural, about God, about things beyond this world always fascinated me, and though I was fearful of what I may find in my diggings and my hunger or thirst for more knowledge, I still could not resist the urge to search, to look, to read, explore, to know. It was while doing this, that I found Obara Meji, and what a treasure I found in her.

We all have curiosity somewhere within, the thing is we are all not curious about the same thing. What interest or fascinates me may not interest or fascinate you. I like odd people. I am attracted (not in a love interest way) by peoples mind. Whenever I meet a person and they think differently from the ordinary Joe, they interest me. I often wonder about that, perhaps because I consider my self odd to this world as well.

Odd in the way that I do not see the world as others do. I see everything in its spiritual aspect and forms and all experiences are seen through my eyes for their spiritual lessons or reason to be. Symbols are messages to me, I am not a fanatic, but  my intelligence in spiritual matters supersedes all other “regular” thoughts. Nature speaks to me and so does the elements. When I hear conversations, it is interpreted to me through the vibration it carries, even if the person just says “yes” or “no”. I hear through your speech vibrations, not through your words. Of course when people realize this, some who have something to hide become nervous, others who are clean and clear becomes curious of me and my oddity. “My oddity“… hmm… I smile.

Curiosity is a strong desire to learn or to know something, so says the dictionary. From childhood to teenager, the urge to learn things new or fascinating gets even more stronger. Many follow those curiosities, some may lead down a darken road, and some leads to light, but this is life, all cannot go the way we expect it to be for each individual.

In our minds, we believe that if a boy shows interest in learning how to fire a gun, and does it one day, perhaps liking the feeling of the power it gives him, he turns into something “bad”.  He went on the wrong path of life. It would be hard for many of us to believe that that was his path. He came in to be exactly who he turned out to be. Again the concept of good and bad comes in and we judge him with that.

No parent wants their child to become a criminal, we all have ideas for them, and what will make us proud if they become what will be prosperous within society, or even in their career. Perhaps even activism driven by humanitarianism, these are things to be proud of. It was curiosity that led Alice down the rabbit hole and into wonderland.

I was to become a Doctor or so my parents hoped. I was a good student, bright, as Jamaicans would say of children doing excellent in school. They bragged to everyone, “Obara will be the doctor of the family”. All this while Obara hated the sight of blood, and scorned even a sneeze and cringed when anyone coughed in her space. I had too much compassion and empathy to see people in pain, and my enemy became a hypochondriac as I grew, so my enemy felt every symptom everybody else had.

The white coat and the stethoscope was appealing along with the respect of medical Doctor behind my name, but I had no interest in that career much to my parents dismay when they finally got it.

Our neighbor who lived in the same tenement with us in Jamaica, Miss Will, (Hilda Willis or Satan’s big sister, her personality certainly fitted if indeed the Devil was real) jumped Poco (Zion revival), that interested me. The man from Greenwich Farm killed Angella with obeah, I wanted to know more, although I was afraid. I sat by my mothers feet when she and Miss Ruth, her friend, would talk about who in the area was obeahing who. I was intrigued and wanted to know more about this obeah, could this thing be real or even possible? Here I am now teaching it. Although I was afraid, I could not help myself. The supernatural fascinated me. It still does.

As I grew and could get my hands on occult books, I read with a zeal that became like food to me. I wanted to know God and more about him, so I went to regular church morning service, evening service and even was a part of the youth service twice per week. My curiosity was spirituality in all forms. Since I was born into Christianity, it contained me, and I searched for God there. I fell in love with Jesus, because he was loving, kind and compassionate as me, I held on tightly onto his frock tail. Yet 66 books of the Bible, could not hold me, although I held on to Jesus, eventually he sent me out of the church and told me “wait there is more go and see!

The world began to spin, I could not understand my obsession and then I became fully awake, never going back to sleep. How could I, becoming awake, was becoming alive! I woke all my children up, we are all still awake.  All this happened because I was relentless to find God. Obsessed I was, which was sparked by my curiosity of all things supernatural ever since I was a child.

“Don’t you go snooping,” may be a fair warning, a true one, but there are times when your instincts, what you yearn, what you feel deep within, what you must know, leads you to your path. What is behind the curtain? You will never know unless you look?

The paragraph  below was taken from this post:

IGNORING YOUR SPIRITUAL CALLING – THE CONSEQUEN

Our curiosity leads us to where we ought to be sometimes. Our dreams and visions lets us know who we are. There may be times when something happens in ones life to lead them to divination, but they don’t know that they were led to seek divination in order find out who they are – but the discovery is often rejected.”

I happened to read it again after I wrote this post, and saw what I had written within, so I guess this post had to be. I hope you learn something from all my efforts with you here on this blog site.

“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing”……. Albert Einstein

“The human brain had a vast memory storage. It made us curious and very creative. Those were the characteristics that gave us an advantage – curiosity, creativity and memory. And that brain did something very special. It invented an idea called ‘the future.” David Suzuki

“Curiosity is the wick in the candle of learning”…….. William Arthur Ward

From https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/

“Curiosity is, in great and generous minds, the first passion and the last.”
― Samuel Johnson, Works of Samuel Johnson

“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.”
― William Arthur Ward

“Listen with curiosity. Speak with honesty. Act with integrity. The greatest problem with communication is we don’t listen to understand. We listen to reply. When we listen with curiosity, we don’t listen with the intent to reply. We listen for what’s behind the words.”
― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart……………………………………………………(I love this quote, Obara Meji)

Thank you Ms. Obara for your honesty! I’ve always wanted to know why this and why that.. but you know every time I asked I was told “ no fly inna God face” , in other words do not question God..as Jamaicans often say. Now that I’m awakening..sometimes I feel that this is all too frightening. I’m comforted by the fact that you too were once afraid but continued on anyways. I want to follow my curiosity in an intelligent and safe way..hmm there’s that pesky fear again! Blessings to you!

” The curiosity I write of here, is that something that drives and haunts you. That thing that either makes you become afraid but wanting to know more about it, or what makes you chase it, eager for answers. It is that magnet that pulls at you as if you are Steele.” That totally describes my curiosity when it comes to people who society label as bad apples. Every time I feel a sense of peace or calmness it comes to me like a surprise. My decision though is to talk to them and each time we plan to meet,… Read more »

It was my De Lawrence curiosity with led me back to you and this site, having been familiar with you previously. And it was the wisdom that oozed through your writing and your personality that pushed my curiousit about divination and the Ifa tradition. I would have to say coming from a Christian background like everyone else made me a skeptic about divination as the religion sees it as taboo. But when I look back at every divination given to me courtesy of you I realize when I didn’t actively take the warnings you gave is when I tripped up… Read more »

Greetings Ma and my ES family. It’s sad that for most people- fear of being labelled as being strange or different is what stops them from being curious and enquiring about life. For example, in my case, having known Christianity all my life, I always had my own theories, doubts and questions about the Abrahamic bible- that were contradictory to the teachings given by the church pastors. It seemed trying to find out more about God would lead me to more questions about some of the teachings in the bible, which would bring about disapproving looks and many shouts of… Read more »

No matter what you do the human world we live in people will judge you!
Therefore live by your inner rules and not conform to others- no matter what, they will still talk and judge you
BE YOU!

Oh we never stop learning indeed. Most people just accept stuff and let themselves be blinded and dumb to things- I for one has always be curious about anything and everything. I want to know how everything works from machines, the universe to the government. I was always and will be curious. Two days a go my 4 yr old asked my wife– ‘who made God”, she was dumbfounded and told her to ask my mom whenever they talk next on the phone. That’s to show us we are born being curious! if a 4yr old can ask such a… Read more »

My curiosity lead me to you and oh what a happy day that was! I have realized that a lot of phrases that was driven in our head deliberately or through auto suggestions is because they don’t want us to find the truth so that they can keep us in mental bondage. I love to seek cause I know I will find.
I have learned so much from you! And for that I will forever be grateful.
Thanks

Beautiful Post!
I can surely say that I have found great satisfaction in feeding my curiosity. It is true, we should pay closer attention to the subjects, the objects, the phenomena that intrigues us.
Over the past year or so, I’ve learnt so much through this blog. My curiosity led me here and has granted me unbelievable experiences.
