Honoring your ancestors is very important for all of us to do. Contrary to what many may think your ancestors can either be by blood or through spirit. It is also very important for us to know that they, our ancestors are never far away from us. I sometimes make reference to the Bible although I do not practice Christianity, and the reason behind that is, I was born into Christianity and was an anointed Evangelist in the Christian Church and also I have been in love with God ever since I can remember and I first met him through the practice of Christianity, I had no choice but to practice Christianity. I studied “The Word”  thoroughly from Genesis to Revelation, so I know the Bible well. Contrary to Christians who condemn and demonize anyone who do not practice their faith or preach their beliefs (most of them not all), I believe that any Religion or Traditional practice  is valid as long as it teaches Peace and Love. As a matter of fact this was a message given to me from a very high light being, you would not believe me if I told you who it was.

In Matthew 17: 3... Jesus went up to the mountain to Pray, while there  the disciples saw him speaking to Moses and Elijah who had long been dead, when he came down, they saw no one with him, but Jesus reassured them and told them not to tell anyone what they had seen until he had risen from the dead.  In other texts and different religions and traditions throughout the world, honoring the ancestors is taught. If it were not for the ones who have gone on before how would we have even know the possibility of God.

It is them that teach us, care for us, look out for us, it is them who loves us without reason. How can we forget our dear Grand Father and Grand Mother? How can we forget the ones we love when they were here who offered up themselves for us so we could have freedom and live in a better world. This is what I mean by ancestor through spirit, like Marcus Garvey, Paul Bogle, Nanny of the maroons etc. How can we turn our backs on them when they are the ones to come to you in dreams and visions and warn you, as I wrote of  in my post My GrandFathers warning and My Grand Father still visits   . I am a medium, to all who did not know.  God has gifted me with plenty gifts, and I use to hold medium sessions every week in my apartment in New York City. The place would always be packed with people. My Padrino use to tell me that one day I would sit in his chair, meaning that the day would come when I would pass spirit through my body for them to speak as he did, and his prophecy came to pass. As usual I love to share knowledge so I did these Spiritual Sessions, Seances, Misas as  a way, not only communicate with the Spirits but also help  those in attendance who may have this gift, develop it. Many lives were saved because of these sessions. At least two women had medical conditions they did not know of, and when the spirit came they were told what was in their bodies which prompted them to go to the hospital and check it out, and both had to be operated on.

Often times when the message comes for people it is their own deceased family who comes through to warn them of impending danger. A mother who has died in child birth, although she has left the physical world and gone on to a next world she will continue to guide her child. She, cannot interfere with the child’s  development as a human being by changing his life’s plan but she can warn him in visions and dreams of things to come, however she must send her messages in  metaphors, (this is why dreams and visions comes most often in a way it is hard to understand) in hope that you can interpret it or see a diviner or prophet or someone with some wisdom who can help you to understand what you are being told. If an ancestor visits you and the dream or vision given to you is clear, there is no cryptic language, like in the case of Cami our blogger when she was told of her Grandfathers passing in her dreams, it means that the Grandfather was a highly developed being, his spirit could speak to her direct because he had earned that right because of his Spiritual development throughout his many incarnations and while he was on earth, he, (perhaps Cami did not even know) was in-tune with his higher self and honored it, much like our blogger Ty who has described her Grandfather as an alchemist, or my Grandfather who came and warned me and my mother in no uncertain terms. Ty and Cami will not see these men often in their dreams, because they have gone to the light, knowing that once they go there as soon as they cross over there is a process.

When a person has made their transition and have decided to step into the Light, and what I mean by the light is not running away from their guide or refusing to go with them, therefore lingering on the earth and becoming earth bound, as Patrick Swazey did in the movie Ghost . I will have a topic on these poor souls one day. As the Spirit leaves the body and cross over, they are often times met by their guides first, their deceased loved ones can be there also but that is contingent on many things which I will explain through out the comments. Regardless of who they were here in the earth realm the process is the same for everyone during the first forty five days (earth time) which equals to 9 days in the spiritual planes, unless you are a high light being which they said Jesus and the Buddha among others were then it will take 3 days, some of the process having been waived.

They are met and are taken through a river in what seems like a boat but it is not. The atmosphere is extremely pleasant, peaceful and quiet and very beautiful in a way you have never seen such a scenic beauty. The boat like looking thing travels fast and there is no visible person manning it. Everything is bolder and brighter than it is here on earth and there is absolutely no fear or grief or sadness of the life you just left behind. When I asked why is this so, my elders say those emotions are human emotions encased into the human body which have been left behind. However there is still a feeling of curiosity as you are transported to a place, majestic in size and very pleasing to the eyes, here you are met by some women dressed in white, you will see people in physical forms and even yourself because your mind is still operating from the earths frequency in terms of imagery and your spirit memory, but it is sharper due to lack of density of the physical body, and also you are on the Astral plane. Where you will live has to be decided by Judgement hall, and this has to do with how you lived your life here on earth. The women will take you to a place where there will wash you, thoroughly, this is a process I am not allowed to explain. The washing will take 3 of the nine days, then they will place you in a room where you will spend another 3 days in solitary reflecting on your life on earth. This place where you will be will play almost like a video, (but you will see it on the walls of the room which seems to connect to your mind, it is indescribable how it is done, but  the image something more than 3D,) your  life out for you to review. It is almost what the Christians call hell, although a realm of Hell does not exist, but in this place, things that you have done which you have either forgotten or wished to forget will face you here and you have to deal with them. For example if you were a prostitute, all the men who you have ever slept with for gain will show themselves to you and you will see their (the men) life and how they lived it.

After you have gone through your life’s review, then you will be taken by your guides to Judgement hall. There is no religion here, but if you made your transition as a christian, your brain will see elements of Christianity in your preparation and throughout your journey until you have settled on your plane where you will live, or if Muslin the same, Buddhist and Hindus the same, etc. This process will be as if you are in court. Your guides who walked with you on earth will be the first to be questioned by the Elders there, all robed in black, it is a sight to see. They will question your guide about things that you did, and why were you allowed to do them. The guides will have to defend themselves because this is pivotal for THEIR elevation, this was a job and they have to show how well they had done in influencing the decisions you made when you were here on Earth. This takes a while, (3 days) and then the your time comes for you to step forward and answer. All this is done as to allow you to reflect back on your time on earth and to see if  the reasons why you went were accomplished and also this Hall of Judgement will place you on the realm where you will live. It will also determine if you have been released from the wheel of existence (achieved nirvana),or if you will have to come back to earth to repay some karmic debt, or if you will be elevated as a light being or considered to be a guide among many possibilities. I have been meaning to tell you these things for a while now, and thought it best to include it in this post.
We must honor our Linage, we absolutely must. There are many realms out in time and space where many non physical beings live. The realm where our ancestors first go when they leave the world is called the Astral realm. This realm closely resembles earth and many operate there similar as to how humans operate here on this  earth plane with the exception of free will and spiritual limitations of the mind. It is important to be in the right relationship with them. We learn from them and so we honor them, we honor their love, wisdom, strength courage and struggles. We must honor them. An Altar must be constructed, do not allow no Pastor to tell you not to erect an altar because you are entertaining duppy/ghost. Your have been incarnated many times through all cultures and have been apart of all races, so if you put something which represent China on your altar, do not question yourself it is your Chinese ancestry which you may not know about coming through. Place fruits there, flowers, light a candle, call their names!. If you do not have the space to do an elaborate altar, place a glass of water down pray and call their names, if you do not know their names, say, to my ancestors, you know me, even if I do not know you, I honor you.

“People will not look forward to posterity who never look backward to their ancestors.”
― Edmund Burke

We are a continuum. Just as we reach back to our ancestors for our fundamental values, so we, as guardians of that legacy, must reach ahead to our children and their children. And we do so with a sense of sacredness in that reaching.

Paul Tsongas

The desire to fly is an idea handed down to us by our ancestors who… looked enviously on the birds soaring freely through space… on the infinite highway of the air.

Wilbur Wright

Some people are your relatives but others are your ancestors, and you choose the ones you want to have as ancestors. You create yourself out of those values.

In Number 12 :6 God said“Listen to my words: “When there is a prophet among you, I, the LORD, reveal myself to them in visions, I speak to them in dreams.

In Joel 2:28   “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.

They speak to us in Visions and Dreams pay attention to them!!!

[…] Spiritual ancestry through a valid spiritual tradition, one that leads to enlightenment and freedom, can work very well and in harmony with your ancestors if you pick your tradition wisely. You will then get double protection and double blessings! You may also recover spiritual knowledge and powers from past lives by being initiated in such a spiritual tradition. Before you make such a step don’t forget to ask your ancestors for their advice and approval! It should never be fear that drives you but love and respect! Though the majority of our ancestors were good people, there were the occasional black sheep among them. And some of them had serious issues! Read this […]

Greeting Obara Meji,
Long time peeper, I have followed your positive spirit from the other site 🙂
I truly believe that “God” has given me SEVERAL spiritual guides all who have manifested in the form of human elderly women. I say this b/c I was adopted and my adopted mother was not the most “comforting” in the motherly sense, but she gave me the tools I needed to survive and I am grateful for her. From my young age “elderly women have guided my steps” However, In the span of months I lost my MOTHER & my Godmother. These women keep coming back to me in the forms of other elderly women who are founded deeply in positive spirit. I want to continue to honor these women, but especially my mother and Godmother. How should I go about doing it. I currently rent a room and I don’t want the landlady to see an “altar” as she will assume “Obeah she a work in deh.” I have given up by Catholicism and am a Christian. My father is Haitian but he is totally tied up in Catholicism, but my spirit keeps calling me to the positive aspects of Vodou.

Greetings famiy ancestors and spirits of light and love. Blessings to you Obara for the mothering role on this site. I love the fact that you stated all religions have a righteousness about them AS LOng as they teach peace and love and I totally agree with this. My path started out in christinaty and then Spirit led me to rasta, although I never considered myself a rasta (as it never felt right) I love, respect and honor His Majesty and Empress Menen dearly. They are like the perfect example of a couple to me (protecting and loving their country by practising charity and being involved in their community). From the moment I first seen His Majesty I felt an instint love for him and have just always felt very connected to them both as they represent a good balance to me of the male and female roles and respect. Along with some of Obara’s inspirational writing I also have his speech that states “while the different religions in their historic forms bind us to limited groups and militate against the development of loyalty to the world community, the mystics have already stood for fellowship of humanity…in harmony with the spirit of the mystics of ages gone by. No one should question the faith of others, for no human being can judge the ways of God.” I love that. But what I find funny is that rasta are like christians and other religions that are quick to bun out and downgrade everything that’s not them. I dnt feel that a lot of people that are into their religion to be respectors of other religious beliefs but people of ifa are very open to these people which is understandable but also displays to me the level of enlightment that some of us have reached here on earth. Love these people same way. And a side note I do not believe that the majority of rasta represent His Majesty with any justice hence a lot of them annoy me to hell. They talk to much and ain’t living to any standard of anything besides talk like dem come a talk show a action we need bout ya inna dem times.
yazzy lovin ur comments and questions I too did not want children once because I wasn’t about to teach them christianity so wat was there but because spirit is the head of my life it brought me to the knowledge I needed right before I got pregnant. I am delighted with joy and confident in what to teach her and she is direct from the ancestors. In her one little yr of life she has been like a saviour to me leading me in the direction I need to raise her as well need to be myself. She is the reason I began looking into the orishas because at her birth out of all the candles I burned for her the only one that burned with a good message was the orisha candle which prompted me to look into this as I had never heard of it and my mom was the one who actually purchased and lit that candle for her not to mention all the people I have met. Thank you ancestors for the return of this ancestor whom I know carries much wisdom.
Obara I found it interesting that the elders are dressed in black, its surprising but I am aware that black carries power as well.
Also thanks for making the connection between the fact of chinese ancestory etc because often in learning about african culture and that all things african and come from africa we dnt acknoledge the wisdom and knowledge from other cultures but its actually really nice to see when people have integrated aspects of other cultures on their alters which I have encountered and wondered so now I know.
I have two questions
1. The water that is set out for the ancestors. Should a libation be poured from it at anytime of is that a separate liquid. Should the libation be poured on the altar or outside and of course howww often?
2. Should be drinking of that water at all?
3. Is there a correct way to dispose of the water at the appointed time.
I apologize for the grammer n error true I’m using a new phone I dnt know how to work as yet so its difficult to make corrections.
Thank you Obara that you have answered the call of creating this wonderful family and grooming us with the armour needed to raise these children and our self to enter into higher conciousness I imagine your blessings to be plenty for not only the elevation of mankind but the spirits of those that are elevated through your words.
Stay blessed love u

Mommy O, here are a couple questions ok:

1. The elders explained to you that emotions like fear, sadness and grief are left behind, encased in our human bodies so what/how then will we feel in the reflection room?

2. While on earth, however awful our sins/actions are, we were led to believe that once we confess our sins and genuinely ask for repentance, that our sins/actions would then be forgotten AND we are washed clean – clean slate, right? So my question is, if that is true, would that portion of our life still be put up for reflection and judgement or would we then be judged by what we did following our repentance???

I’m blessed to have your teachings here for what we lacked in this modern day selfish life… we get to learn here. I was always concerned that if and when I have kids there would be nothing left to teach them.

I grew up with my grandmother and it’s a humbling experience I would NEVER trade in this life for. She was very knowledgeable and in tune with her ancestors. She always honored them. I never saw an altar but she spoke highly of them and made sure they were fed and left gift and tingz on their visits. Every night when mi a wash out my dinna plate mi head to her room for hers and she would say “don’t scrape out all the food eenuh, leave some fi mi ancestors” and she always had a glass of water set up for them as well. Mi nah guh lie… mi use to tink she crazy. Lmao… cah she serious when she refer to her ancestors dem man. She had many reverence for them. She didn’t teach me alot, I guess she didn’t wanna terrify her lil wash belly since I was so young but I remember like is yesterday how much reverence she had for her ancestors. Love u mama O! She still alive eenuh. A das why mi come tek a set pan my now spiritual Mommy O… cah she remind me of my mama and now I have priceless knowledge to take with me and to teach my kids (if ever mi decide fi trod da road de)..

Mommy O, I needed this post. Reading it in its entirety, I felt peace, curiousity, love, fear you name it, I felt it. I keep having to remind myself that I refuse to be caught up the a** in religions and focus more on spiritual growth, finding myself, my purpose, my destiny. I know this cannot be accomplished without first finding out where we are from… who came before us…their spiritual influences and so it is most appropriate that the lesson today be about honoring them.

Also, mi nah guh mek nobadi mek mi feel some type a way about setting up mi likkle altar if honor those that have gone on before me to honor me. The thought alone is beautiful. I feel honored.

Mommy O, I don’t know what to do to remember my dreams right as mi wake up dem jus lef mi. MI positive mi get a message last night for me and my sisters and mi caah memba atall. Mi also get a song. It was a sorta like a Kumina song, very deep… it was peaceful. That’s All I Remember.

Reading this post transported me to various places. I know that we should pay our respects to those that have paved the way for us. I never knew any of my grandfathers but I love them. I love my grandmothers, even the one that sent me to buy the chicken front.

love this song where Shabba Ranks was paying homage to all the greats….No matter who we are, home much we think we’ve accomplished, others paved the way. One love…
