A FATHERS LOVE -A TALE OF TRUST, LOVE AND OBEAH PART-2

Hi everyone, I am happy that you enjoyed the post yesterday of Smithy and the wicked Miss Jane. I will continue the story as promised, because I myself want to see how all what has happened thus far played out. Although Miss Jane is wicked, I believe Millicent is even more evil for urging the mother to do her dirt. Smithy is my hero here, let me get right into the story as I too like you do not know what will happen until my fingers start to type.

Everton had quarreled heavily with Millicent and had packed her things along with Miss Jane’s grip and told her to go. However he held on to Dexter their son, while Millicent begged him to please change his mind as she did not do anything to him. Upon seeing that he would not budge they went to Smithy who was sitting under his mango tree, trimming some leather he had brought home from work. Millicent begged Smithy to talk to his son while Miss Jane shouted at her to come on and stop begging when she saw that Smithy never responded to her pleas.

“Come on Millie, yuh nuh si sey ah de wicked duttie man set him son fi hate yuh, but him gwine si whey wata walk guh ah pumpkin belly, come on man and stop beg dis ole idiot! shouted Miss Jane as she pulled her daughter along. Smithy continued to trim his leather, he was never affected by name calling, it mattered not what this woman called him, only that she left his son’s life and never come back. He sent a silent prayer out to his mother for saving his son, and ignored the women.

Millicent did not want to leave Everton, he was a very good man and a good father and so she hated her mother within that moment. She felt as if her world had just crashed. Why did she allow her mother to influence her in her wrong doings, she asked herself. Immediately she heard a voice in her head said, “You never corrected you mother but rather egged her on”, and she shook her head wanting to shake the voice away.

Dexter was crying upon seeing his mother in distress, Everton held him as he refused to give the child to the mother. He threatened Millicent that he would go to the police and tell that he gave the food which was prepared by the mother to the dog and that the dog died after he ate it. He would accuse them of attempted murder. Millicent knowing that there was some truth to the story, reluctantly left, as she cried, wailing for her son and for the best man she had ever had, Everton.

A taxi had been called and Millicent had to go to her work place at the medical center to tell them that she had to take some time off as they had a tragedy in the family. She spoke to the charge nurse while crying profusely which made her lie seem believable and soon everything was set in order for her to have a months leave. She and her mother headed out to the country where Millicent cried all the way on the drive.

Mis Jane was 65 years old and very deadly, she had survived two husbands which she killed. One for his property and the other because he had turned into a drunk who snored and piss the bed. Millicent did not know this but she knew that her mother worked Obeah, she had many problems solved in the past from her mother throwing “science”.

Miss Jane sat in the back seat and pondered on Smithy. She knew he had something to do with why Everton wasn’t “caught” in the trap she set for him, but there were many ways to hang a dog without putting rope around his neck. Miss Jane smiled as she eyed her stupid crying daughter and kissed her teeth at the girls foolishness. She knew that Miss Jane did not take defeat lightly, but rather planned another recourse. She imagined Smithy meeting an untimely death, and she would see it happen for real. When Smithy died who would be there to protect fool fool Everton now, because she knew that Smithy was behind Everton’s behavior, the man was a snake!. She sighed as her stomach rumbled, she was hungry but brushed the thought of food away, she could not wait to get home in the country, because tonight she would go to bush and meet Mackie there.Woe be unto Smithy and Everton for the disgrace she and her daughter went through!

In the taxi were Miss Jane, Millicent and the driver, this was so to anybody who looked into the cab, but what could not be seen was Smithy’s mother sitting in the middle of the cab, looking at Miss Jane as she planned for her son. Aunty as she was called shook her head, because this woman had just brought trouble upon herself, she looked around her and saw Miss Miss and Son Son, two of her children who had left the earth and was now with her, they looked at her and knew that work was ahead, Smithy had to overcome this woman’s’ evil plot!

Everton sat alone in his room, he had just picked up Dexter from Mrs. Henry daycare. It had been a month now since he had driven Millicent and her wicked mother away. She had tried to see the child and him, but he was not able to face her as yet. He still was numb over the whole incident, he had loved Millicent and even planned to marry her and settle, perhaps have more children, he was a plumber and he worked good money as he worked for the University and also did odd jobs on the side. Why did she and her mother decide to harm him? He was still confused over the whole thing. His father had saved his life and for that he was grateful. The old man and him along with Dexter has resumed life, although it was hard caring for a small boy who still looked out for his mother if he heard any woman’s voice. It was a sad affair, but life had to go on. His father had told him that Obeah was real, but he did not specified that it was what these women tried to do to him, was it? wondered Everton. He had asked Smithy to explain more, but Smithy had told him not to worry, the vipers had gone and they would be alright. Dexter began to cry, Everton got up to go attend to him who was laying in his crib. He looked at his son and thought to himself, “Boy don’t worry, mi nah eva leff yuh, is you, me an Grand Pa now,” he sighed as he changed his son.

Miss Jane had began her work as soon as she had gotten to Kingston. She had gone to Madda Mackie her Zion revival friend who had helped teach her much of what she knew. Mackie, as Miss Jane called her was “Bad” with the Obeah and was willing to do all sorts of things. She had explained to Mackie that when she went to Kingston she had met her daughters boyfriend father living there in the house “Just ah tek up space suh!

“Mackie’, she said, ‘de man evil yuh can si it write all ova him face. Him nuh like Millie fi nutten and when mi come him tek a piece a set pon mi, mi cudden do nutten right, as mi cough a problem,go inna de fridge ah problem, eat ah problem,, mi sey mi bawl till mi weak fi si dis man a terrorize mi an mi pickney whey nuh trouble nobody,” said Miss Jane, who had tears streaming down her face as she remembered what she had suffered at the hands of Smithy.

Mackie, watched Miss Jane as she lied to her, she smiled an internal one. Miss Jane was as evil as they came, but Mackie did not mind, she had her work to do and she had chosen to walk on the darker side of the moon.  Yes she was a revivalist, a church goer but when she had gotten her gift, she had been asked which road she wanted to follow, she had chosen the road of revenge. Her reason which she had told herself was that she needed to know the dark side of the work in order to defend her children and grandchildren. She was told to make a pot, a three foot pot and to sacrifice two cats, a dog, a rabbit and the fetus of an unborn child there among other things. She was told to cut her arm in a certain place three times and allow the blood to drip inside the pot, she had no idea at the time that the human blood which she spilled in the pot was her covenant to always be giving human blood whenever the spirit wanted human flesh. She was to find out sometime later after she began her work, when the her grand son died suddenly in the yard from having a seizure. She had run to her pot which was hidden in the back of her yard in a dark  room which was fenced off, thinking that an enemy had struck, but was shocked when Rider the main spirit of her pot told her that the flesh of the boy was sweet. She almost fainted, but recovered quickly enough to ask Rider and his wife Twiggy what had she done, they told her of the pact she had made by giving them her blood. She had protested that she did not know and was told that she did not ask. From then Mackie had to supply a certain number of “Gifts” to Rider and Twiggy and their family in way of killing innocent people. If she did not do this, then her own life and that of her children and grandchildren would be cut down one by one, she was beholden to her covenant.

Madda Mack woke up and went to the back yard to give Rider and Twiggy, MasoN and Gwey some rum and cornmeal porridge. She had to knock the door three times every time she entered the room, and then she could enter, the pot was huge and big rats scurried away as she entered, she did not fear them, she was use to them, they were the companions of the spirits. She sat before the pot and called Rider as she poured half bottle of white rum inside the pot, “Rider! she called, she continued to pour, “Rider”, she called again, “Rider” and then she heard a distinct gurgle.

A hoarse voice answered is “wha you waan Gertie? Madda Mackie real name was Gertrude Mckenzie. Madda Mackie answered and said….”rejoice cause Christmas come, food on the way” what oonuh gwine to give mi?” Twiggy the wife of Rider answered and said “gift first Gertie, begging after”. Mackie finished her business with them and left, Twiggy was a hard one to deal with, she was tougher than the husband, but Mackie had to be careful as they were a family and she had to serve them as they took care of her and had seen to her needs, as long as she gave them what they asked for This time however they wanted young blood. Mackie laughed, Miss Jane evil, but greater evil was around, young blood Rider wanted, that he would get.  And so Mackie went to the house to eat and her morning meal.

Mackie had given Miss Jane something Jamaicans called broomweed and told her to soak it a mixture of Kerosene and piss for one month then she should take it back to her. Mackie liked Jane, she had already supplied ten “Gifts” for Rider and Twiggy. Mackie smiled to herself because today was the day Miss Jane was to bring the broom weed back.

Smithy sat asleep inside his shop, the day was cool and he was very tired. As he slept he saw in his vision his mother standing before him, he tried to open his eyes, he wanted to touch her but she disappeared. He jumped up from his sleep, and looked around. It seemed so real, “Mama?” Smithy shook his head, what was wrong now he thought. He prayed silently inside his head, “mama come back”, was his thought, “what was wrong?”, Smithy was confused in thought. Something was not right.

Miss Jane sat outside waiting for Mackie to come see her, “lawd it hot” she sighed. Millicent did not now what she was up to, but she would show that dirty Everton something, he would bawl the way Millicent and her had cried after he publicly disgraced them. “Yes man”,  she would send out an order with the help of Mackie to kill de duttie Smithy, “dis damn ole man!”, she thought as she wriggled in her chair with impatience.

Mackie had been watching Miss Jane through the window’s curtain, she smiled as she saw impatience on the woman’s face. Miss Jane surely had a surprise coming, because she wanted Smithy dead, but Rider wanted young blood. “Hey hayyyyy! laugh Mackie to herself. ‘Janie gal every man fi dem self, and God fi us all”. The man Smithy had some serious defense and Rider had told her not to touch him, but had given her the go ahead to touch the seed. “Hmmmmm, the seed”, thought Mackie, “the seed!

Madda Mackie sighed to herself, she had not planned  for her life to take this route where she had made a covenant with spirit while searching for power, she had regretted it when she had lost her grandson to spirits who she had traded her life with unbeknownst to her. She had killed many, and she had more to go. She was promised long life, but afterward what would happen they would not tell her. Hell was something she feared and she wished that when her time came, that she would be warned before time so she could repent, certainly God would forgive her, he said he would, hell it was written right there in the bible.

For now she was the servant of Rider and Twiggy, and they were a hungry bunch, she thanked God for people like miss Jane who kept a steady supply of Gifts.

Smithy’s mother stood behind Mackie, along with Miss Miss and Son Son, they heard her thoughts, and wondered where to go with this wretch of a woman. They knew who the seed was that Rider and Twiggy wanted, but they could not allow it to be, no they could not!

The Elders in heaven gathered together and watched all that was happening. They all looked at each other and smiled sadly. Humans, when will they learn that revenge, hate and discord was their downfall. When will they learn that spirits like Rider and Twiggy were angels in disguise, testing them and also teaching them through the acts in what they did that would someday make them regret. When would humans learn? Their behavior was recycled behavior, and what appealed the most to them was the role of playing God, if they only knew what their position was on earth and that they were really nothing in physical form, they would think twice before seeking revenge and power. Humans, they sighed, when will you learn? Humans when will you learn?

Good Evening beautiful family in Spirit..Wow! Obara what an awesome tale of being truthful and humble. If Miss Mackie was humble she would not be found in this position, but she has allowed her gifts to become her curse, we must not allow our talents to be our God.We will see if miss mackie learns.

Blessings!

This was a great story, Obara Meji and you are right about it being an effective way to teach. I learnt that the best source of power is from the Source itself. You’ll still be tested but not in a way that is karmically detrimental. I like how in this second instalment, the characters were grouped in threes. The husband, son and grandfather. The mother, daughter and Mackie. Smithy’s mother and her son and daughter. I look forward to the next part. Thanks again!

Lovely day to everyone. type fingers type, type fingers type lol; Obara now you have me hooked fuh sure with dis one. I find it fascinating and also very humbling to realize that in the grand scheme of things we really know nothing. One of the lessons I’m taking away from this story is that we should all aspire for wisdom and understanding rather than power! Look at the tangled web spider Mackie weaving for herself. “The Elders in heaven gathered together and watched all that was happening. They all looked at each other and smiled sadly. Humans, when will… Read more »
