I believe in the power of prayer. It was revealed to me many years ago that prayer was one of life’s biggest secrets.
When I began my work after becoming awakened and going through that terrible initiation, I was praying for people. People who had heard that I had gone through something kept calling as “well wishers” (really, they were just calling to see if the rumors were true), but to them I would respond in deep fervent prayer and revelations.
Those times, after passing through that spiritual initiation, I was like a person who was groggy from sleep. I was fresh from my spiritual initiation, so even though I felt renewed, I was also tired and overwhelmed as though the burden of the world was on my shoulder.
The prayers that I prayed for people was so powerful that it brought me through the telephone and I would see myself sit beside the person, and I would see their whole life, and I would describe to them all that they wore, the settings of their house, and even what they ate that day.
Through praying for people my name began to spread and I became known for things I would say.
I was not surprised to see that this was the avenue the Spirit took me to as the battlefield– prayer–, because all my life, prayer was my strength and shield when I went through distressful times. One such time, on two occasions, was on the birthing table while I was giving birth. During those times, I was under heavy spiritual attack from the baby father’s mistress who did not want me to give birth. I was getting C-Section but because I was aware of the attack, I did not want to go fully under anesthesia.
Not knowing if this was possible, I asked the anesthesiologist if there was a way that he could not put me fully under but have me wake intermittently during the procedure. He told me yes. Starting from 90, by the time I got to the count of 98, I was knocked out.
And then I woke up in the middle of the operation– praying Psalms from the Christian Bible (at the time I was practicing Christianity).
“God, bless the surgeons hands. Bless their family. Bless the eyes that they use to see. Bless their hearts, and give them the intention to deliver this baby whole…”
Then I would knock out.
And wake up again.
“…Bless the anesthesiologist. Give him the knowledge to administer the prodcedure well. Bless his family. Bless his wife and children. His parents and family…”
Then I would knock out again.
And wake up again.
“…Bless the nurses who are attending to me. Cover all of us problems. Cover the hospital from problems. From all disaster. Allow this procedure to be completed well and that my child shall enter the world safely–“
And I was out again.
At some point, my baby came out screaming as if she knew that it was a fight for her to come into the world. For what the doctors did not see, was that there was an army of malevolent forces in and surrounding the hospital stationed to attack not only my enemy, but also my innocent child that was to be lifted from my womb. I had to use prayer to cover everyone– and it did.
In the end, the anesthesiologist, the doctors and nurses all came to me perplexed. The anesthesiologist told me that he would mark “No charge” on my hospital bill because he had never seen anyone pray for him like that for while under operation. I don’t remember much of the prayers, but whatever it was that I did say, seemed to affect everyone.
Throughout my life, prayer has always been a defense for me. A savior in times of need. When I got to Nigeria, and sat before the Babalawos (Priests of Ifa), I noticed that everything they did, an incantation in Yoruba was sung. From morning honors, to divination, to ritualistic sacrifice, to drinking ordinary water, an incantation was always repeated.
Now the word “incantation” is in fact prayer. In fact, the word comes from the Latin word “in-cantatio” which literally meant “to sing” (in a dazzling way). However, prayers, especially those that one needs to resonate throughout the Cosmological world is supposed to be prayed in a musical or hypnotic way. Observe the use of melodious octave in this Babalawo’s morning prayer and honorific salutation:
It is not by happenstance that the morning prayer is chanted this way.
And then this example below. This was how we prayed in the Spiritual churches when I attended. The words are poetic, and they flow, almost like poetry. In this particular prayer, notice that there were words of supplication, humility, the precursor to the actual prayer, eulogizing God, so that the door can be opened ajar so the prayer may enter and be considered.
(Please don’t laugh at my scratchy voice, singing is not my talent, this is just for demonstration but I am sure I do not sound like a cat being choked :D)
I no longer pray this way, however. Nowadays, my prayers are affirmative. I no longer plead, beg, or ask. My prayers are always said in the present. And when I pray this way, they’re not just mere words, they’re my core belief, and they are repetitive so they become a mantra.
Hinduism and Buddhism are religious practices that I strongly admire. Theirs is a knowledge that is deep and extremely wise. Their understanding of the Cosmological world is great, and so they, too, like the Africans, use repetitious words to bring into Being things that they deeply wish or desire, such as the use of mantras.
The Hindu prayers are often mindful of Universal Laws and seek to follow Order, and the approach is usually first by denying the ego, like saying “I have no Self” in a way to acknowledge God as the All and to surrender the ego. And the prayers are often in combination with offerings which are “pleasing” to Spirit. These types of prayers speaks to me because of my empathic nature.
When I was a little girl, everything used to break my enemy’s heart. Whenever I would see the suffering of other people, I would hide behind my mother’s legs, suck my thumb, and cry. In Jamaica on Sunday’s they would play Desidarata on the radio and it was sad for me, because something within my young spirit, knew that the world was broken, and I did not know how to fix it.
Now, I have found a way to pray so it can impact the world, below you will see it.
In your comment, if you do comment, you can drop your own prayer if you want to show other people how you pray.
For my own prayer for you and the world is this:
“The world is a great place. Mankind are advanced and precious to the Earth. Therefore, we have the ability to move past things that are not for us. We honor that which is God. We honor that which is outside of ourselves, but protects, guides and teaches us as we walk along life’s way. We accept great health as is given to us by God. We accept great prosperity as which is given to us by God. We radiate Love, Kindness, and Compassion to all and sundry all over the world. And for our future generation, we radiate the energy of peace so that mankind can find his purpose.
So shall it be.”
If you have ever learned anything from me on this blog, this post that I have written about prayer is one that I pray resonates deeply with you.
Be a walking prayer! Let your daily speech be affirmative and positive. Speak as though you possess the things you desire, and believe with firm conviction that you do, or that it shall be yours, for even the slightest doubt can bar the way.
Make it a habit to pray a small prayer upon your first morning’s breath. You can choose to say,
“Thank you that my spirit has chosen to come back to this body to live another day, and to continue my mission here. Allow me to enjoy this day, that my presence in other people’s life will be joyful and not a hindrance. May anything I face, I shall overcome. So shall it be.”
Within the Earth, we have divided the day into 24 hours, though time is a manmade construct. During this time, there are many many spirits that are in our environment like grand central station, or a bus terminal.
People who lack consistency or sincerity of intention risk their prayers being canceled by the passing beings of a day’s hour. There is a large gap between humankind and Source, and in that huge space is a void where a chaos of varying beings dwell. Imagine your prayer weaving through this void, it may not reach, as well as it may, but that depends on how aligned the heart is with the tongue.
So do not pray for world peace if your heart’s desire is war. Humans must work to close this gap through repetition and sincerity if one wishes his prayer to connect to the distant outer world, so as to become true in his material world.
But no matter what you believe in, know that the Invisible Force to which we assign many a name, hears you.
For all who constantly read this blog, and for those who do comment, I appreciate you. I love you. And my spirit knows you.
Please continue to walk good.
Obara Meji
PS: However… there will come a point where some people find themselves not praying any longer. Can you guess why?
Hi Obara. I hope you are well. I revisited this post hoping to find your answer to the question but….. I really hoped to find the answer but patience is a virtue so I’ll wait. This post and the one you did on fasting are among my favourites. I think there are various reasons why “some” people stop praying. I have 2 reasons in mind, (1) some stop praying because they have mastered the law of attraction and manifestation. We are surrounded by all kind of energies and some people use that to their advantage. So rather than pray, they… Read more »
1- When I began my journey (not of my own doing, spirit dragged me into submission) one of the things I was opened up to was speaking in unknown language. Mine were many and never like the Christian Pastors. This is a power given to certain people and it works off energy and vibration. 2-Only the beggar on the street and the lunatic has no enemy or perhaps the enemy has beat them down to nothing and this is the result but everyone has enemy. Without them the work would be lost. They have their place. 3-The Christ Consciouseness is… Read more »
What an enlightening read!!! I love the story on Thales. When I started embracing my spirituality, I noticed that so many things changed in me. I am naturally a very calm person but I became calmer, I got more in tune with my consciousness, I choose the things I give my attention or react to and became even more quiet, all my senses got heightened, etc. Spirituality really does change a person, you get to understand value and place it on meaningful things. I used to be this person who wants things to happen “sharp sharp” like we say it… Read more »
Love and light to you Obara. Please did you get my response? There was a prompt after I posted it that said waiting for approval.
I find your writing style highly engaging.
To answer the question up above. Why some people find themselves not praying any longer? Is because they don’t feel connected to God. It’s Like broke telephone. Like some people would say, ” It like God dont hear me or I can’t hear him…Some, people get busy with every day task of life, work, school, bills, themselves, their problem, etc. Too busy with things. Some people belief or faith in God is Low. Very low. The stop believe in things or God. They may feel God is taken long to answer their pray or request. Stop believing. Ephesians 6:12 NKJV… Read more »
Greetings teacher, wah make mi love cry soh looooooool mi go check the blog if there is a post about cry cry ppl. I can recall in my earlier time, prayers for me were like singing songs, it takes me in to a trance then sometime movement would come (dance) like that of a Ballerina. forgive me if I am wrong but singing the words it carries a frequency like codes, I don’t even know if am explaining my opinion correctly but it carries a wave that is echoed.
Love and light
beautiful teacher
Thank u for teaching on prayers, people tend to stop praying when it seems they are not getting what they prayed for. thank you for the little morning prayer you included in this teaching.
You are welcome my darling
Another beautiful post! Question – is it considered better to pray affirmatively (I am, I receive, etc.) rather than to ask/plead as we are taught? I wonder if affirmative prayer may be better received because it is said as a belief and often allows the person praying tap into elements of the power of speech. Or if praying by asking may be better received because there is a default level of humility involved (as Christians are taught to be humble). I think some people will stop praying because: – They feel they’ve tapped into a place where they can create… Read more »
Thanks for answering the question Sim, of course I cannot say yay or nay until others have tried but thanks. Yes, it’s always best to pray in the affirmative, this is the way I do it
Aboru Aboye Iya, Blessed be to you and yours, home and abroad. Once again, thank you for your selflessness. It is not surprising, but the consistency with which you just be who you are, is mind blowing and enlightening. In your brief prayer, you used “we” from start to finish and it made me emotional in a good way. It touched my heart! I have learned a lot from you, and this is why the post resonates deeply to my core. No matter what, i stay grateful and i express gratitude for the different things(a plate of food, going out… Read more »

Silent follower and first time commenter here. Thank you for the wisdom and guidance you share. My prayer life has waned and I’m grateful to have come across this post today.
I think the reason people stop praying is some spiritually influenced fatigue (from malevolent forces) when the answer to their prayers are almost within grasp.
Could this be it?
Hi Elorm, thank you for coming out of hiding. As to your answer, it’s a good thought process though I can not yet say yes or no to the answer so that others can still comment their thoughts too.
But stay out of the shadows from now and into the light! Welcome to the comment section!!
Well appreciated the prayer post, Obara. When some people think that they are praying the right way. You just show us here that we need to have a pure heart and be sincerity when we pray. I really enjoyed the prayer you shared with us. It helps a lot for me to see & adjust the way I pray to God regarding things or about things. I tell my kids the same thing, when they wake up first thing in the morning they should pray to God first or give God Thanks for something. Thank You for this . Nuff… Read more »
Thank you so much I needed this it helps me a lot to help order thank you so much
You are welcome my dear, blessings!
Is the reason people will find themselves not praying any longer;
due to their spirit becoming unnecessarily painful. Meaning people will no longer find their self worth and self analysis therefore not being able to appreciate the virtues on other people
Thanks Sue but I cannot respond now, let me wait to hear from more people
Hi Obara, I needed this post. This (is), no was, something that I was lacking. I remember many years ago in New York, I was going through some issues and I found knee city, and prayer and reading the Bible was my only refuge. Obara, when I said I was deeply in the word and prayerful it even blew my mind. I had a hunger for the word and couldn’t wait to find a quiet place to talk to the almighty. There was nobody sweeter than him, the words would just flow, praying was my everything. Now, I hardly pray,… Read more »

Yes because I only call and attract light here. All are welcome even the Athiest or the Angnastics. There is love for all. Iron sharpens Iron, I judge no one.
I do observe Ramadan because I love fasting and fasting is a spiritual thing not beholden to jany One religion
Yes Obara.. Knowledge is light! Your lights shine across the globe as you teach with love and uphold unity.. It’s Ramadan, You know and have the knowledge about the spiritual benefits of fasting on its own, even if it’s not Ramadan, it’s show how the body and soul is being trained for spiritual uplifting. I love you, Obara..

Good morning Obara. I woke up today and prayed my usual prayer before I read wonderful post. I actually happy that it is enriching Today I prayed: “Dear Father, may your grace be upon us as we put our hope in you. Bless the landlord, give home to homeless, I am sending love and peace to everybody on my path today, to my neigbors, plants and animals, to my son and my pregnant wife, help her during and after her pregnancy, and our newborn shall come into this world with all she needs for her own mission. When I was a kid, i used to wonder where my instincts came from, and something would speak to me in my left and right ears and the voice would sound loud on my mind, but when I look back and forth and I wouldn’t see anything. Especially when I’m alone and it tells me not to do certain things which sometimes I would just disobey just to see the outcome of it, and to my greatest surprise, they always came to pass and I would either face the consequences or witness another person face it if I obeyed. Hmm. Thank you so much ma. Just about 5 days ago, I received this Bible verse through a vision which spoke about prayers. Isaiah 56:7. And two days ago I saw my younger sister praying so hard. And today I am reading your blog talking about prayers. Now I know that the spirits are telling me to be more serious with my prayer life. Though i am a very prayerful person but sometimes the trouble of the world brings down the vibes and thereby growing cold. I think it’s time to hit the fire burning. Yes Marc, God always confirm
Good Morning, i just found your page and subscribed. Thank you for sharing and i believe that some people will find themselves not praying because they have reached a point of being one with God. They speak and it comes to pass.
Or they get their needs and prayers met and go back to their comfort zone. I find that this path is about learning to embrace the unknown (an uncomfortable zone). Reading the various comments here will continue to add riches to the world. Bless you all, and bless you, Obara, for reminding and encouraging us to keep praying. I feel there is a serious underlying message in your post. Blessings. PS. I find it easier to pray in light language, not even Yoruba, but my biggest form of prayer is to have a grateful heart at all times. Gratitude has… Read more »

Obara seeing this post notification made me smile. It’s funny how I dreamt you this morning within the 4:30am. You told me about rum, to go outside and sing this song your parents taught you. It was this old time song which you told me to research…… Thank you Obara! 🙂 Muah!!!!
Yw my baby Sue
Thank you Ma’ Obara Meji,
Always interesting readings and learning from you. I recently joined and still familiarizing myself.
To answer your question plainly, I believe people stop praying because they don’t see any results/changes to their prayers.
From a personal perspective, I came to know the power of a fervent prayer, but unless you’ve seen or experienced that power of prayer, it’s very easy to give up and stop praying!
I understand but life is also comprised of many test and we must endure so that things become easier. Remove fear and challenge whatever comes your way and you will WIN.
Welcome to the blog, peace and blessings to you.
Ma’a, I sent you an email… could you please have a look at it?
I truly continue to appreciate your wisdom and the sharing of your experiences my sister. Pray without ceasing they say and it is very wise advice. Along my journey that is exactly what I think I’ve done. Most times I am in prayer mode as I go through my day. This has been challenged very heavily in recent years because of the attacks and distractions in my life. The challenges have only made me see more, appreciate more and learn to pray more. In my current situation, it is prayer that comforts me. I love what you say about our… Read more »
