A mother is very distraught about the behaviour of her 13-year-old son who she says is abusing her. According to the woman, people are always talking about child abuse but she said she is a parent who is being abused by her son.
“My son is 13 years old and he does not listen to anything I tell him,” she said.
“It seems to me, at times, that my son is possessed by the devil because he uses filthy language to me and sometimes throw stones at me when I scold him about the terrible things he does. There are days he does not attend school. When I question him about it, he curses bad words and tells me to leave him alone,” the woman disclosed.
The woman said her neighbours are always complaining about the behaviour of her son. She said one day she went into his room to tell him what the neighbours had said. Instead of going and apologising to the neighbours, she said her son went out into the street and began cursing the neighbours.
“I telephoned his father to come and take control of him, but he said he does not want that child in his life,” the mother said. “I could not believe it when his father told me he did not want to have anything to do with his own son. He has blamed me for spoiling the boy, but that is not true. I have tried my best to lead him in the right direction, but the boy has refused to listen to me. “If his father does not want to take him in hand, what does he expect me to do? I cannot turn him out in the street. I have even taken him to a psychologist but the boy continues to be very rude and ill-mannered.
I just cannot cope any longer with his behaviour. “Last month I was at home and a woman reported to me that he had sexually assaulted her 12-year-old daughter. The woman reported the matter to the police and he was charged. I had to bail him. He is to go to court later this month. He still has not changed his rude behaviour towards me and I have warned him that I am gong to ask the judge to send him to a place of safety because I cannot cope with him any longer.”
“Do you think the judge will send him to a place of safety?”
There is provision in law for children in need of care and protection to be sent to a juvenile correctional centre where they will remain until they are 18
