It is one of the best decisions to make when you decide to take time out for yourself and meditate. It sounds easy, how hard could it be to sit and be silent?

While it may be easy for some, others may find it difficult to slow their minds down enough and hear absolutely nothing. The world is a very busy place and as I have written before in a post here on Embracing Spirituality, it is naturally chaotic. We are just too busy! Many people live in countries where there is war, how do they cope? Others live in countries where the economic conditions is so bad, they pray everyday for a solution, if only to help their children survive.

Your bills, children, family, your  job and all the woes of life and just trying to survive often times does not allow most people to enjoy their lives. Unfortunately, some people believe that in order to enjoy life you have to party, have money, go on luxurious vacations and then some. It is important for us to know ourselves, there are so many possibilities within us, if we slow down enough to know ourselves, tap into our consciousness, be one with the universe and allow ourselves to listen, be silent and listen.  To be able to handle life and all within we have to settle our minds, find time for ourselves (me time), and all this points to meditation.

Meditation is practiced all over the world. It is associated with many religions and traditional practices. A person does not have to belong to a particular religion or beholden to any faith in order to practice meditation. The hardest thing in meditation is to find the time to do so. When the time is found the second hardest thing is to quiet the mind enough to find solace. It is possible to be happy in a chaotic world. It is possible to be able to handle six children on a shoestring budget and still not end up in a psyche ward.

It is possible to deal with the stress of family which you cannot escape physically but through meditation, the boss at work becomes no problem to you once you begin to meditate and find your peace. Her problems which she brings to work to throw on everyone cannot affect you, your peace which you have found within yourself through meditation, resonates outward for all to see and the bullies of life will let you be! All things are possible through the power of the mind especially when you align yourself with its consciousness and this is done through meditation.

Find a quiet place in your home or even at work and allow yourself to enter that space, where there exist no one in the world but you. Let’s begin with home. If you have a family and it is difficult for you to have quiet time in your home then set your alarm to wake you up in the early morning when all are asleep. Find your space and this should be a place that you will continually go for mediation. Now here is how to begin…

What You Will Need:
  • Nice clean mat or fluffy cushion
  • A notebook, pen or pencil (this is for any messages you might receive)
  • A clear glass of water
  • A white unscented candle (Scented candles can be a distraction)
  • Calming music or anything that mimics the sounds of nature (I strongly recommend meditating with music but it is optional and you do not have to)
  • White clothing (Recommended but optional)
Time to Begin…

Sit on your mat or cushion, light your candle, have your water ready, along with your lit candle. Set aside your notebook and pencil to take notes if necessary, after you have finish meditating, never during, and if you will be using  music turn it on low. Sit in a position that is comfortable for you, not everyone is comfortable sitting cross legged. Make yourself as comfortable as you can.

Now, close your eyes and have both palms opened and upward as if getting ready to receive something, both hands should be resting on your thighs. With the music playing softly in the background, listen to it.

As you listen to the music with your eyes close, I want you to imagine yourself on top of a very high mountain. The mountain is so high it almost touches the sky. There is a huge boulder on the mountain which you have to push over the edge. Visualize yourself pushing the boulder. If while visualizing yourself pushing the boulder, it falls over the edge of the mountain then you will find yourself soaring, almost flying in the air.

Keep your minds eye on you and see where you go. If you find it difficult to push the boulder over the edge of the mountain, keep trying. If it is still difficult and you find that you cannot do it, then your mind has not settled enough or you are not fully relaxed. You will have to keep trying daily until you can push the bolder over. For some it will be easy, for others at first it will be difficult but you will get there. I recommend using music while meditating because it helps to distract the mind from its natural interference’s.

It calms you as you enter a world which exists in your consciousness that you have never been to before. This form of meditation will also develop you psychically and you ought to record each experience in the notebook specifically for this purpose. Once you have began this journey which will release you from the bondage and restraints of the physical world. You will look forward to this quiet time everyday as you progress.

Hi Prosperity, Obara has a blog post on this site that tells you how to properly set up your altar. Just do a search. If you follow the steps you won’t be inviting malevolent spirits into your home. Obara can correct me if I’m mistaken, but it can be elaborate or as basic as you want (it’s up to you). Wow. You make it sound like such a breeze! I’ve tried meditation twice before and failed miserably. I sat cross legged on a mat (in “silence” unfortunately) and my mind raced. I tried to clear my mind but when ever I try to make myself do one thing, my mind makes sure it does the opposite. I tell myself “Don’t think” and immediately I’m thinking. I thought of everything possible. Maybe I’m stressed and unaware of it? Or just have problems concentrating or both. But I will try the method you suggested and hope all goes well this time.

Guys, let me share this with you…Obara, taught us about setting water under your bed to have clear dreams and to remember your dreams. I have religiously done it since I’ve been taught.
